In 1975, the sixth form and secretarial class of Knox College (high school) were sheared off to form the nucleus of the Community College. This was in response to the vision of the founder of Knox, Rev Dr. Lewis Davidson, who envisaged an institution catering to the community "from the cradle to the grave." Hence Knox is a complex of schools - basic school (ages 3 - 6), Junior School (ages 3 - 11), High School (ages 11 - 16), and the Community College (ages 16 - upwards). The Knox Complex is situated on 108 acres of land in Spalding, Clarendon. The Community College, in its endeavour to serve its community is situated on 64 acres in Spalding and has now spread to include a campus in Mandeville and the 75 acres campus in Cobbla. The May Pen Campus began in 2001, and is situated on Foga Road. Knox is an institution of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and was initially founded by the Church of Scotland. The High School and Community College are grant aided by the Government, but the other schools are still private entities. The complex has a Board of Trustees, which is appointed by the Church, and each entity has a Board of Management and its own administrative body headed by a Principal. In 1975, the College started with an office, a planning area, three classrooms and a multi-purpose area. Each year has seen growth in physical facilities.
